There is no need for you to get here before I go for surgery. Even if you get here late in the afternoon on the 14th, I'm fine. I am walking over. The surgery is at 10:30 and I will not be home until the 15 possibly even the 16th. So you better not disappoint Adam or I'll be mad.Wendy Weibelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11124122491156063877noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8636111343812044798.post-11544462345156966262010-09-06T22:58:53.144-05:002010-09-06T22:58:53.144-05:00I still think 900 miles in one day is too much! Sometimes life is really simple - it's just doing the right thing. IMO the right thing is to consider your own safety and to take care of your sister in her time of need. I think Adam is a good kid and he will understand. I know it is difficult because I've missed some of the Grandparent's Days because I had a job and then we went full-time.

Love the Ducky.Margie and Rogerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09778628815035344373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8636111343812044798.post-28940780730031425442010-09-06T19:14:27.289-05:002010-09-06T19:14:27.289-05:00(catching up on blogs here)

But he is young and other special days are coming... and if he was to think if he was the one in the hospital and needing help, he will understand how his Grandpa is needed by everyone.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Karen and Steve
(Our Blog) RVing: Small House... You, like us, know our limits. We have driven the 1200 miles between NJ and Louisiana straight through. Then we started stopping one night. We now need two nights. Adam loves you and will understand. Just tell him you are OLD. Always works for me with my granddaughters! These school events are really important to kids especially when they get to bring parents and grandparents.

I don't know the particulars of your sister's surgery but I do know, in most cases, we can't do much for anyone before the operation. After that, is when they really need assistance.

So, is it possible to simply "reverse" your plans a bit and instead of getting to your sisters a few days before, stay a few days later? I would think you'd be able to get a few hundred miles in after Adam's school day (3pm??), if you were ready to go, and that would leave a much shorter drive on the 13th.

It would still give you enough time to get the hospital bed sometime on the 14th or even the 15th. Just another thought for you to toss around!Rickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16523089898331291694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8636111343812044798.post-45920918531263709772010-09-06T17:20:39.890-05:002010-09-06T17:20:39.890-05:00Yeah, it's really better you don't risk fa...Yeah, it's really better you don't risk falling nighty night at the wheel...You might be surprised at how well Adam will handle it, if you explain that Grampa just can't do that long of a drive, and he wants Grampa to stay safe...
Riggens looks like he has 2 huge blue lips...he's killin' me here!!!Dennis and Donnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07320009741335075781noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8636111343812044798.post-92032607876104946702010-09-06T15:59:54.854-05:002010-09-06T15:59:54.854-05:00just a lazy duck day!!!..nice duck Riggs.. I am sure that if you explain to him your dilemma, that driving that distance isn't a good idea all in one day, that you see him so often and there will always be other Grandfather Days in the future, and that your sister needs you more at this time because of her surgery, I am sure that he will understand. He will miss you, but he will know that you are there helping someone else in your family who needs you more at this time. I know it is hard on children at that age but they also need to know that they aren't the only ones who need your attention.

Take care whatever your decision is.

Kevin and Ruth
www.travelwithkevinandruth.comwww.travelwithkevinandruth.comhttp://www.travelwithkevinandruth.comnoreply@blogger.com
