Veterans Day
Thank You, Thank You
To All Who Served
The United States flag does not fly because the wind moves past it. The United States flag flies from the last breath of each military member who has died protecting it. American Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Coast Guardsmen don't fight because they hate what's in front of them...they fight because they love what's behind them!
Navy Seal’s service dog did not want to leave his side.
Patch from my era.
My Son Tim’s Dessert Storm Patch.
What else can be said other than THANK YOU so much for your service to your country.I know a lot of bloggers out there have served in the armed forces of both The USA. and Canada, and I send my Thanks to you all. I wish I could list all of you here in my blog for everyone to see but I am always afraid I would forget someone or not know about their service.
I also know that most if not all of you are like me, I am always embarrassed when someone Thanks me for my service, In all honesty, I enjoyed my time flying in the Navy, I always considered it a gift that made me a better person, the discipline, and leadership taught me, carried through my entire life, right onto my career in Law Enforcement. So Thank You all for giving me the opportunity to serve this great country of ours, I am truly proud to be an American.
Adam and I are going to spend the day just bumming, have a store run to make and maybe just take a drive and enjoy this nice sunny day, was going to do some more laundry, but it can wait, life is short and every minute you can spend with the Grand’s is special.
I will cut this short today, again Thank you all, and God Bless all of you. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.
PS. To all the wives out there, Thank You for the restless nights, you worried while your spouse was serving in harms way.
Good tribute, Sam, and thank you for your service!
ReplyDeleteAfter returning from Viet Nam I went back to college. There was still a lot of campus unrest and demonstrations. Anyone in the Military was hated and jeered. We were called Baby Killers, and I was actually spit on and had rocks thrown at me and some of my other service friends that had gone back to school. So it hasn't always been thankyou that you received as a Veteran....... Rod
ReplyDeleteIt is embarrassing that people treated our Vietnam Vets in such a manner. None of them deserved that. What a sad time in our history.
ReplyDeleteGood post today.
What a beautiful tribute ~ God Bless them all...
ReplyDeleteHave fun & Travel safe

Rod, I was fortunate,I never had any outright hostility directed my way, But when I got back and separated. I went right on the PD, for a long time only my co-workers who also were mainly veterans knew what I had done.I never joined the Legion or VFW until the 1990's, 20 years after my service.I think Dessert Storm did a lot to change the way America treated it's Veterans. Thanks again for your sevrice, your friend, Sam...
ReplyDeleteI also believe it depended on what part of the country you lived in. No there werent the accolades and reverence we give our well deserved servicemen and women today, but I was in college during the war and never saw any disrepect to the servicemen in this area. Had classes with several that were back in school on GI bill and no incidents.
ReplyDelete"Meeting Grandpa for the First Time" nearly blew me away. I still can't see through the tears.
ReplyDeleteI remember how badly the Vietnam Vets were treated on their return...Our little town lost quite a few in that war...I think it is soooo great that Veterans are now given the thanks and kudos they deserve...Thank you every one!
ReplyDeletenice tribute Sam..and thank you for your service!
ReplyDeleteGreat tribute, Sam. Both the U.S.A. and Canada are lucky to have men like you!
ReplyDeleteNice post! Thank you and thank you to all the others that have served our countries to protect us and to keep us free.

Very nice tribute Sam. Then you went into Law Enforcement and protected the public again. I don't think Police get the credit they deserve,,,,,no benefits either... Where would be without them???
