Saturday Mumblings.

Today turned out to be a nice sunny and mild day here in Dardenne Prairie, it got up to about 60 degrees and no wind.

I had to make a Wal-Mart run this morning, one of the fluorescent tubes in the master bath quit so we had no light in there. I didn’t have a spare downstairs, so I went and got a couple and got that fixed. Surprised the store was almost empty, the employee I talked said it’ been like that all day after being packed yesterday.

The pooches are in and out loving the warmer and sunny weather, and not the bitter cold and wind they have had all week.

We had Nicky here for the last two days and now she is spending the weekend with her other Grandparents.Se sure likes playing with Rigg’s and Sadie and taking care of her babies.

Our friends Dennis & Donna from Sammich Il. have finally hit the road and are headed south to Texas, we can’t wait to follow them and enjoy their adventures on the blog.

Hope all our friends start getting warmer weather. please be safe out there. Sam & Donna……..

Wednesday Meanderings.

Another bitter cold day here in Dardenne Prairie, was 17 degrees when I was having my coffee at 06:00AM only supposed to get up to 30 degrees today even with the sun shining. Seems to me just a little cool for Thanksgiving time in St Louis. but it looks like a lot of the country is getting unseasonable cold weather.

My son Andy built a fire in the insert for the first time this year. Once it is going good, the kitchen and great room will warm right up, it has a blower that blows hot air into both rooms. When it gets the kitchen to 80 degrees I turn the thermostat on fan only and it sends it through the rest of the house without the expensive electric furnace kicking on.

Rigg’s was caught red pawed with a sock he stole from Donna. Look at his face.

                              Who Me???

My son Andy has volunteered to cook the turkey and Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow so Donna can relax, the last couple of years we have gone out to the Buffet. It will e nice to stay home for a change.

Our good friends Dennis & Donna at the Cave in Sandwich Il. just got the great news that the test Donna was waiting for came back benign and so they will be able to leave for south Texas this weekend. We are so happy for them, number one that there is no cancer, and number two they can head out on a vacation, they have worked hard for. Put a 30 pack of High Life Light in the truck since we will be following you on the blog.

Not much else going on here at the ranch, hope all our friends are having a great week. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna…….

Sunday Notes.

Bitter cold here in Dardenne Prairie, woke up to 17 degrees and at 04:00PM it is still 28 which should be the high today, Had a short period of sunshine, but that didn’t help any.

Donna has spent most of the weekend, in bed and taking her medicine, she did look a little better, but the coughing just wears her down. except for running to the pharmacy the other morning. I haven’t left the house all week. the truck stays in the garage along with Donna’s Escape.

I have been waiting two weeks to hear from the body shop to let me know when they receive my passenger side mirror to install it. You would think a mirror would be in stock somewhere. It had been hit against the garage door post twice and finally fell apart.

Hoping for some more improvement in Donna’s condition this week, not much else going on. Rigg’s and Sadie are keeping us busy wanting to play or get attention. Rigg’s has been laying on the bed with his Mom to keep her company.

Hope all is well out there in blog land. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna….

Friday Thoughts.

A cold rainy dreary, yucky day, here in Dardenne Prairie. Donna s still under the weather, she hasn’t been to the restaurant all week, She called the Doctor and I picked up some prescriptions for her today, whenever she gets colds now it affects her breathing and she is super susceptible to pneumonia, needless to say I worry about her, I absolutely hate being in such a helpless situation. I certainly don’t want to face my retirement by myself.

Anyway I am hoping to see an improvement soon. I know since we haven’t made any plans to head south that a lot of our friends are wondering, but she just can’t travel yet. I hope to get her where it’s warmer and easier breathing later this year.

That’s about it for now, be safe out there. Sam & Donna………

Wednesday Meanderings.

It is a cold (40degrees) rainy day here in Dardenne Prairie, the pooches only go out when they absolutely have to go. I read On another blog where it is tough to find idea’s to write about in a daily blog when you are home and sitting around and not going places or visiting friends. My buddy Rigg’s came to the rescue by suggesting a few of his vacation pictures from the vault, so here we go.

Donna was supposed to work tonight but she is feeling down so she called off. I won’t complain, I like when she rests here at home.

We plans this morning to go to the grocery store together, but when I went to start the truck, the battery was down. I haven’t used it in a couple weeks and I noticed the GPS was left plugged in and on, can’t believe it dragged two batteries down but it did. Donna went to the store in her Escape, and I dug out the charger and charged the truck and then took it for a ride. I’ll try it in the morning after it sets in the garage all night to see if it is charged, or I If I need the batteries checked. Can’t remember but I know there are at least 2 or 3 years old.

Other than that nothing is new. Hope all is well with all our friends. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna……

Sunday Notes.

Woke up to a really nice warm temperature of 67 degrees, it was cloudy though and about 08:00AM a storm front came through with some rain and then very high winds, the sun came out but the winds have stayed , our patio (plastic) chairs were blown off the patio so we will have to go behind the house and see where they ended up.

Areas in Illinois have had tornado’s and a lot worse than we got, so our luck held out and there is no damage here at the Weeb ranch.

Donna is off today and we are having a quiet day at home, Rigg’s and Sadie are both laying at my feet. one on each foot. They have to be against you.

My Grandgirls in New Jersey went hunting with their Mom & Dad. here's a few pics.

The one thing I a happy for is they do things as a family and neither one of the girls is squeamish about horse’s and hunting, they also enjoyed surfing school last summer.

T.G.I.F.

Been a couple days since I posted last. we have had some really cold mornings this week one was 17degrees, which is colder than normal, Now today it is 60 degrees, Saturday it is supposed to be 67, and Sunday 71, then it is supposed to drop into the normal November 50’s Monday.

Just the kind of weather where everyone gets sick.still haven’t made any plans for travel yet, Donna wants to fix a couple things here at the house that need fixing, so she says we may spend the money on that in stead of taking an extended winter trip. She also wants to wait until she gets on Medicare next year as it will reduce her cost for medical coverage. She had to Cobras her medical when she retired and it is ungodly expensive.

Rigg’s is guarding the area around my chair at the table and making snoring noises just to keep everyone off guard.

Donna just left for work so I am thinking of having a roast beef and cheese sub, heated in the oven and a couple of High Life’s to wash it down. Haven’t made a pizza in a couple weeks, mostly because the kid’s aren’t here and I keep forgetting to take a couple lumps of dough out of the freezer.

I see where Al & Kelly down in Arizona, were successful in catching one of the skunks that took over their crawl space. Hope you get the other one Al.

That’s about it for today. Everyone be safe out there. Sam & Donna………

Veterans Day.

Veteran's Day Parade

and for all my Canadian Friends..

canadaremberance

thankful-for-veterans

Today in the USA and Canada, we are celebrating Veterans Day, and Remembrance Day. What more can we say than Thank You to all those who have served their country, and take a few minutes in prayer to honor those that gave their lives in the service of our country.

To all my friends and fellow bloggers out there who are veterans, I know who most of you are ,but there are just to many to list, I extend my deepest Thanks for your service.

Being a Vet I can only say that the time I served was a wonderful time in my life, and it prepared me for all the things that followed, I have always said and I truly believe that Freedom has the sweetest taste for someone who has fought for it..

I want to take just a minute to Thank all my family members who served, first by Great Uncle John Weibel who was KIA on Normandy Beach, Then my Dad, Irving J. Weibel who served in WW2 in the Army Air Force in the Pacific. My brother Bill who served during the Viet Nam war in the US Navy. and then my Son Tim who served in the US Navy during Desert Storm.

I can only pray that we will be at peace in 6 years when my Grandson Adam comes of age, but he is already talking about joining the Navy when he gets out of college.

It is a cloudy day here in Dardenne Prairie, Donna and I are going to go out later and take advantage of a Veteran eats free deal at one of the local restaurants, I will have to stop at the store and get my Poppy for this year.

Hope all is well with all our friends, Be safe out there and enjoy the holiday. Sam & Donna…..

T.G.I.F.

Today was a nice sunny day with the temperature reaching 59 degrees.
I received gift from the Fed Ex man. Back when I was flying in the Navy the helicopters I was assigned to was the UH2-A/B models made by Kaman Aircraft in Connecticut. They had a policy that when a crew made a rescue in one of their aircraft all members of the crew were awarded a Kaman Rescue Pin. As a token of the companies support for our mission. I believe Sikorskey Helicopters did the same thing with their models.
Anyway between being on so many detachments and away from the home station, my pins, I was awarded 3, never reached me. I just figured it ended up in some Officer’s desk drawer who needed it more than I did. As life goes on I never really worried about it but with the advent of Facebook I joined the Kaman Navy Helicopters group and have been enjoying contacting other Navy pilots and crews who also flew in the H2. I asked one if he had ever received his rescue pins and he said no but he had contacted Kaman Aerospace, and they indeed had the records and forwarded him his missing pin, he gave me e-mail address of a woman to contact. which I did, Today the Fed-EX man dropped a package off and it it was my long awaited pin and two books about the company plus a nice letter of  Thanks for my service from Kaman Aerospace, what a great gesture from a company after 40 years.
KamanRescuePin
I told Donna it might not look like much to the average person, but its like being awarded a medal you should have gotten 40 years ago. It will find it’s way into a shadow box with my wings, medals, and maybe my chrome 45 with my wings on the grips.
That just about made my day, what a great ending to the story.
Another slow news day here at the ranch, Donna just left for work, and Rigg’s and I are hanging out in the kitchen.
Hope all of our friends are having a great day. be safe out there. Sam & Donna…….

Wednesday Thoughts.

Not much news from the bustling Metropolis of Dardenne Prairie MO. Where the Weeb Ranch is centrally and scenically located.

Yesterday our first floor tenants at the Bird Motel threw a party for all their friends, Donna catered it with fresh bird seed.

birdmotelpartytime11-05-13aThey were all well behaved and just a little bit noisy when someone tried to take more than his share.

Nothing going on today, had to make a run to Schnucks to pick up one of my prescriptions. That it it for being out and about, it was a mist cold and cloudy day, so I spent the rest of the day on the laptop.

Donna just left for work and Andy is making spaghetti for supper, so I am just sitting here enjoying a cold (frosted glass) High Life light, just might have another after this one.

That’s about it for today, just be safe out there and enjoy your travels. Sam & Donna……………

Monday Meanderings..

Was a nice sunny but cool day here at the ranch, didn’t seem like it since there was a pretty good breeze, but it did get up to 61 degrees. That’s about right for November here in Dardenne Prairie.
Didn’t do much today, I went to Wally World to get some light bulbs and RV antifreeze. Donna is off so she whipped up a peach cake, Now she is frying some potatoes, we will have those with some smoked sausage ( schnitzels) and a vegetable. Rigg’s is looking at his dish waiting for his supper too. Mom told him he has to be good from now until Christmas as he is still not quite up to top behavior. Will he ever slow down. He lost his I want a treat bandanna, I went out in the yard but didn’t find it. He gets really territorial about those and when he see's you with a clean one wants it put on right now.
How about a couple of Navy shots.

Saturday Mumblings.

A pretty sunny, but colder day here at the Ranch, only got up to about 50 degrees today, I took the truck (Max) to the fueling station and filled up and got her the best wash, she has been outside while the  fiver was parked in front of her stall and the leaves and rain had left a mess on her. She really looked good when I got her home and she is back in her stall for tonight. I was going to make a grocery and Walmart run but that ended up being postponed until tomorrow.

Adam had his playoff game today and they lost, he was disappointed, but he said his coach thought the winning team was a select team that somehow got into the tournament.I told him if they were a stronger team they deserved to win and just come back next year and beat them.

Donna has the restaurant tonight, and Rigg’s and I are just sitting around, he has had his supper and is being lazy now.

Hope all is well with all our friends out there. Be safe. Sam& Donna…….
