Monday started as usual,up at 04:30am, coffee and then first Donna and then Andy off to work, I got some computer time in and then loaded a broken window and frame from the screen porch into the truck. For those who don't know Rigg's got excited and put his paws through it, luckily he didn't get cut. I headed to Wentzville MO. where there is a locksmith, seems I am unable to find a key to lock the box on the back of my RV so I copied the number off the lock on it and I am going to see if they can cut two keys from that. I thought the shop opened at 09:00am so I pulled up at 09:05am and sure enough the sign said Monday-Friday Open 10:00am - 07:00PM, great . So I took the frame over to the Glass company and they said it would be ready tomorrow. Since I had some time to kill I stopped at the Direct TV place in Wentzville and talked to the tech about getting a tripod for my dish, that I have mounted on the trailer. I had looked on Craigslist and I found a couple used ones for $30 but I didn't get any answers to the E-mails I sent Sat. The tech said he had one in the shop and brought it out it is a nice compact unit about three feet tall with a tie down point , a compass and a built in level.. I asked him what it cost and he said $39. since it was only $9 more for a brand new one versus the old, I bought it and put it in the truck. Got back to the locksmith at 10:15 AM and still closed, waited until 10:30am and then called the number for the business and got a Can't come to the phone recording. Don't know what happened maybe a family emergency. But I decided to go get the groceries and go home and try them later in the day. Called again about 1:00PM and still got the recording so for some reason they are closed today.
At the store I had to pick up just about all the laundry essentials, Tide, Bleach, Clorox for Colors, Spray&Wash, a can of Comet, and a bottle of dishwashing liquid soap. paid more for those items than what the food cost, Donna will be a happy lady tonight, I decided to get a couple nice porterhouse steaks and two huge baking potatoes, and I will fire up the grill about the same time she is driving home. Yummy, I can almost smell and taste it now with anticipation. Rigg's will be camped by the BBQ pit hoping against all hopes he might get some, Sorry Rigg's, people food, and I know Mom & I won't have any left when were finished.
Oh by the way when I got home I set up the dish on the tripod after removing it from the trailer and went in the house and got one of the boxes, plugged it into the satellite inlet and wiring I put in the trailer the other day and walla on the first try I got a picture, of course all I had to do was look at the direction the house dish was pointing and match it. but I know it all works. So another item is checked off the getting ready to wander list.
That's about it for now. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna..
Do you have HD TV and an HD dish? We just got a new HD TV in the house in June, and HD dish and receivers too. Dennis was considering one for our camper, but he is having a devil of a time pointing his HD dish (he has a separate one for the camper). Our set up is new enough that they are using a different satellite...If you have HD, what satellite do you point it at??
ReplyDeleteBetter get another porterhouse...I'm in for dinner!
I know how frustrating it is now to go to stores and find they don't open until 10am? What's with that? Even Government offices are open before 9am now!
ReplyDeleteGlad Rigg's didn't get his paw cut on that glass!
Dennis & Donna, Since I have an HD TV in the bedroom but I still have a regular set in the living room of the 5th wheel. I am still using the old standard round dish, We have direct TV and they use Sat. 10 which is 102.8W here in the midwest, HD requires lining up on two sats so is a little trickier, Dennis may want to get a Sat finder meter,(less than $20) and also download a free program like Satellite Calculator. Which will give you all the satellites and locations. Direct TV on it's setup menu will give you the the settings after you type in the locations zipcode.Hope this helps. Sam & Sonna..PS I also ran a dedicated sat line from outside the trailer to inside the entertainment center tp bypass all the trailer coax. It worked great for us....
ReplyDeleteGuess I better start reading up on satellite do's and don'ts I have never had one.
ReplyDeleteI just got use to cable 30 years later..
Wow Sam...a wonderful dinner and satellite TV in the fifth wheel. You are super!!
ReplyDeleteWe have HD TV and our satellite is the Winegard Slimline Automatic on the roof. We also have the portable dish but it is the regular satellite dish NOT HD. We did this because we'll use the portable when we are in lots of trees and figured it would be hard to find three satellites. We're using the portable now in this state park.
Take care and hope you all enjoyed your steaks and baked potatoes!!

Hey, Sam, I appreciate the larger font you used today. :)
ReplyDeleteAt some point we will get a satellite for the rig. Len has real withdrawals from certain stations that show lots of westerns.
ReplyDeleteSteak? Did someone mention steak?
Next time you are having steak....give us all a little advance notice so we can drive over!
ReplyDeleteSurely you didn't sit there and eat that steak in front of Riggs and not give him a bite, mean, mean daddy.
