Tuesday Thoughts.

Up at 04:30AM with my bride, then she was off to the truck company.

About 09:30AM I got a call from Don at the RV repair place that has our trailer, he said if I could come over he wanted to show me something. It is about a 20 minute drive from the Ranch so you can bet all the way there I was imagining he had found something else and it would be more money. When I got there he said he had finished taking out the sink cabinet and also the furnace and water pump had to be removed and now he was going to remove the floor panels that needed to be replace, but he wanted me to see how the damage had gone all the way through and how when it is all back together he is going to try and make sure that there is no water anyplace. I took a couple of pictures. Sure looks sad now.

The replacement floor will be marine plywood, two sheets from the wall over the water heater, this plywood will be treated on both sides with a sealer before installation, then a floating floor covering like STEVEO&KAREN used in their motor home. Hopefully it will be much better than new, all new molding will be used throughout. The only carpeting left will be in the slide, this will make cleaning and sweeping and vacuuming easier, with Rigg’s hair.

Hope I didn’t open a can of worms or jump into the pit with yesterday’s comment on Mexico, I know everyone's comfort zone is different. After reading the comments, it appears that most people still aren’t real comfortable with traveling in that area as yet. plus the one thing I hadn’t even taken into account, the language difference seems to be pretty important. I must admit after my last trip north to Canada. We would probably stay clear of Quebec for the same reason, plus the lack of even a willingness by some to even help you, when it was obvious they knew English, but refused to speak it or acknowledge us back in 1995. My son said however that certain fast food restaurants and quick shops were that way with Spanish when he was stationed in the Navy near San Diego Ca. But the rest of Canada and the USA is a mighty big place, and the Welcome sign is always lit at the Weeb Ranch.

Well that’s about it for today, Hope you all have a fine week and be safe out there. Sam & Donna..

  1. Perhaps if traveling in another country it might behoove us to learn the rudiments of their language? Why do we expect them to learn ours?

  2. Something I always wanted to do was learn Spanish...I took 2 years of German in High School and cannot say one word...A second language is always helpful, if you speak it fluently..especially in the South of Texas and the Southwest...I still might pursue this, just to keep the 'ol brain working... Looks like that camper repair is moving along...and being done correctly...

  3. I know what your talking about in Quebec. I have had the same thing happen to me. Got lost driving in Montreal one time and not one person in a Tim Horton's coffee shop would help me with directions. That whole French thing is a sore point here in Canada...especially the Provinces bordering Quebec.

  6. Wow those pictures sure make the water damage look nasty. It will be so nice to see it all fixed up. Looks like it is a great time to get the work done. It will be ready for camping season next year or maybe a little winter trip away for a week or two.

I agree that if people don't feel comfortable going somewhere then they are better off not going. I also agreee with Judy and Emma that if you are going to go to a different country where a different language is used then you should be attempting to learn at least the basics of that languague. The area we are travelling through right now has way too much english spoken and they don't seem to make much of an attempt to learn spanish.

  8. glad to see the repairs are coming along...and he sure seems to know what he is doing...it will be like new :) can't wait to follow the progress pictures...

We live here in canada -and we would like to avoid quebec..we have had the same problems as you..what irks me more than anything is they want our "english" tourist dollars..but they won't even put their detour signs in english and french..I do not speak french nor do I want to..sadly to get 'anywhere' from here such as Ontario we do have to travel through it..

    have a super week...

Mexico is off limits to us but it has nothing to do with language - just safety.

As for Quebec, I've been there several times and never had a problem. I'd love to go back in our 5'er for a trip especially to Quebec City as it's beautiful.

Quebecer's are entitled to speak French just as we in B.C. are entitled to speak English. We are an officially bi-lingual Country - which a lot of fellow Canadians seem to forget - or want to ignore.

  10. You are right Rick, Canada is an offically bi-lingual country but Quebec seems to forget this! We have no problem with Quebec being french, and when travelling through it we try to speak french. But when there is a law that states that all signs must be in french including road signs then Quebec is no longer part of this bi-lingual country. They want it their way across Canada but don't want it to be bi-lingual in their own province.

We also love Quebec City and the Gaspe Bay area.
