Was up at 04:30PM and had my coffee with my bride, then I realized it was Wednesday and I had forgotten to take the dumper down yesterday so at 05:00AM I was pulling the dumper down the driveway in the dark, right before the end of the driveway is a large cedar tree, The next thing I know a Large buck with a rack taller than me ran across the drive in front of me not 3 feet away, he must have been standing under the tall cedar like they do and I must have spooked him. Needless to say it scared the crap out of me, I parked the tote and went back to the house and told Donna I swear I could still smell him when I got back in the house, he was that close. Like a near miss by a train. Donna wrote an e-mail to her friends when she got to work, I will copy it here, She titled it Close Call.
My son has gone deer hunting the last few weekends….only saw a couple but too far away.
My husband was taking the trash dumpster down to the curb this morning. We have a very long driveway about
250 feet….as he got near the end he said he heard a noise, then a whooshing sound….he stopped and a deer w/ antlers. Taller than he is ran about 2 feet from him . He said the wind from the deer almost knocked him over….I’m sure
You’ve heard the song about grandmother being run over by a reindeer…..well, I almost had a husband run over by
A deer!..boy, I can just see me trying to fill out an insurance claim on that one .he says he can still smell the thing.
Tammy went back to her friends house and said she would be back to see us this weekend. She had a commitment for Thanksgiving, which is fine, because Donna & I the last few years have been going to a Buffet for the Thanksgiving Meal, and it is so much more convenient with no muss or fuss or cooking all day. Andy goes with his girlfriend to her parents, and Adam is going with his Mom, so with just two of us this is the best way.
Other than the deer sighting not much going on in Dardenne Prairie, back 10 or 15 years ago before the subdivisions sprung up we had deer and cows and you name it all around us. but that ended with civilization.
I guess now when one wanders into town they are completely out of their element.
Be safe out there. Sam & Donna……..
Hope you and Donna enjoy your relaxing Thanksgiving. The buffet sounds nice and I am sure it has a great variety to choose from.
ReplyDeleteIt is always a treat to see a buck, the closer the better.
ReplyDeleteWe saw 2 deer coming back from Taylor's play after dark...One was just about to cross the road and thought better of it...The other one was about 5 miles farther down and ran alongside the GMC....Do deer chase trucks too?? Our son, Kelly, got one last Thursday...I see deer sausage in our future..
