Monday Meanderings.

Was up at 04:30 AM and had coffee with my bride, then she was off to the truck company, Rigg’s and I were off to our nap.

It turned out to be a very dreary cloudy day, the temp says 56 degrees, but with a strong wind blowing it seems like it is a lot colder than that, I made a quick run to the liquor store for a bottle of anisette. That’s what you need on a cold morning to add to your coffee and stay warm.

Rigg’s and Sadie are taking advantage of a lazy day and laying around.

How about a couple of Navy pictures.

These were taken at the Phila Naval Yard in 1967.

  2. Cruisers CA 139 USS Salem now a museum ship in Quincy Mass...

CA 134 USS Des Moines.... Sadly scrapped in 2007... Two of her 5" dual gun mounts are on display with the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi, Tx...

The Des Moines class cruisers were the last of their kind shooting only guns...

Now cruisers shoot all forms of rockets and cruise missiles... And barely have any guns at all..... Time they have changed for us old duffers...

    1. When I was in the Med we had a cruiser assigned to our battle group. The Uss Columbus, It had been converted to a guided missile ship but had a Wheel house about 4 stories tall, and two Macks instead of stacks. What an impressive ship especially when only that Bridge was visibly as we plowed through heavy seas in a storm, she rode like a submarine.
