Thursday Happenings.

Another gorgeous day here at the Ranch. My Son Andy went and got Adam out of school early to take him to a St Louis Rams pre season game that he had gotten tickets for. Adam is all  about football playing now that he is starting his second season with the Warrenton Warriors. His Dad was more into soccer but he was still a good all around athlete until he was sidelined in High School with a broken pelvis.

Rigg’s saying goodbye before Adam leaves for the Game.

Nothing else going on here the sun is out it 95 degree’s so I will be relaxing with Rigg’s under the kitchen fan.

Donna is working at the restaurant tonight. So it will have a quiet night.

Everyone be safe out there. Sam & Donna…….

Wednesday Musings.

Here it is Wednesday already, the sun is shining and it is supposed to get into the mid 90’s today, this is what August is usually like. We will be staying home for the holiday weekend. But hope to get out afterward.

Today Donna decided it was going to be bath day, for Rigg’s, He is like most youngsters , can’t keep him out of a lake or pool or puddle, but add the magic word and he is ready to go into hiding. My Mom used to say if she wanted to hide something from her boys she would put it under a bar of soap.

Donna had picked up some new doggie shampoo at the store so before he knew it he was being zapped with the hose in the back yard.

Looks like he is just putting up with it, the shampoo did make his coat nice and soft. Right after this was shot when I went to go in the house , Rigg’s bolted and knocked Donna over. Boy was she hot.

Then later this afternoon the chimney cleaners came to clean our chimney and fireplace. Rigg’s of course needed to supervise and make sure the job was done right.

Looks like he is happy with the job.

Donna has the restaurant duty tonight, so Rigg’s and I will be on our own without adult supervision.

That’s about it for today, hope everyone is doing fine, and please be safe out there. Sam & Donna………..

Sunday Notes.

We started off with another gorgeous and sunny day, were getting spoiled by the great weather we’ve been having , no rain and not real hot temps. It might just touch 90 again today. Donna got called in to the restaurant, since thy were having another Car Show on the lot. Did I say Car Show, yep, so at 11:00AM I headed the truck over to JJ’s with my camera. good thing I did as the owner Jerry’s wife asked I would take pictures for them as they are a sponsor. I said sure.

These are just a sample I took 63 shots, the owners were all great and opened hoods trunks and doors , whatever was needed. I just wish I could see that Rat with the big block Buick engine and those long straight pipes fired up after dark. It must look like a P-51 or Messerschmidt at full bore. I can tell you one thing that Buick was no slouch on loud when he drove it in to the lot. It was loud. Even for this guy with half his hearing gone.
That was the excitement for my day. My Mom always used to say boys love things that are loud ,big, smelly and greasy, I still like things like that. and appreciate a fine tuned engine.
I hope all of our friends are having a great weekend, please be safe out there, Sam & Donna..

Friday/Saturday Notes.

happy-birthday11-9

To My Bride Donna…..

Yes today is Donna’s Birthday, although she has to work at the Restaurant to night she won’t have much time to celebrate anything here at home, but I know her Co-workers will make her feel good.

It is another one of those gorgeous, sunny, 90 degree days here in Dardenne Prairie. just the kind of day to relax and watch the world go by. Speaking of relaxing, Rigg’s is doing just that taking a nap on my feet.

I am going to make a homemade pizza tonight, took the dough out to rise this morning and it looks like it is doing a good job. Been a couple weeks since I threw one together.

Looks like that is about it for today. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna…….

Wednesday/Thursday Happenings.

Today started as another sunny and nice day here in Dardenne Prairie. Donna and I just stayed around the house, until I got a text message that I had a prescription ready to be picked up. So I got the truck out and headed over to Schnucks Pharmacy to pick it up, when I got my Medicare supplement I went with the one from my Doctors, since he wasn’t covered on the AARP providers. The only difference as price was pretty close was if I wanted generic drugs without any cost I had to get my drugs at Schnucks , rather than Walgreens. If I am away from a Schnucks area they will go ahead and let me and use Walgreens so that will cover us when we are traveling, also my refills are for 3 months so I will usually have a supply to cover travel too.

My truck is usually in the garage, and I don’t go out much with it maybe once a week. Donna’s Escape gets used for her to go to work and if Andy needs to go someplace when Samantha has his car at work. He rides to his job with his boss, so he doesn’t need it and that leaves a car for her to go to work in.

Today I decided to try and find a solution to a problem we have had with our cook station in the kitchen, it is a Jenn-aire, and for those that don’t know Jenn-aire was bought out by Maytag. About a year ago the switch for the exhaust fan melted down, and when I went to several appliance places I was told the same thing they don’t make the switch anymore, I must have sent 25 e-mails trying to locate some parts place that had one on the shelf but with no luck. No craigslist, no e-bay and no Amazon.

The other day when looking through my auto parts tune up cabinet for something else I came across a switch from an old long gone set of fog lights from some truck I had in the past.I took it up stairs and tried it in the square hole left for the switch and it was just a hair to big, after some judicious filing it slid right is and I wired it up and presto just like new. We now have an exhaust fan again, I sure missed it with anything boiling, or smoky.

Donna is getting ready to go to the restaurant and I am getting ready to give myself my shot for today, and then think about what I am going to do about supper for just me.

That’s about it for today. Hope all is well with all our friends out there. Be safe. Sam & Donna…….

Monday Meanderings.

WE are having another sunny day in the middle 80’s again. I could go for this weather year round here in Dardenne Prairie. Donna went out in the back yard and did some limb cutting and burning. I went to the store for a milk and meat run for the week.Since Donna is only home on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, we get our meats and chicken for the week so it will last. Of course Andy and Samantha and I have to eat all week but they sometimes go out, I I just have a cold supper, like a sandwich.

Been lovin the fact that I can buy a dozen nice hard rolls at The Wal Mart for the princely sum of $3.00, they bake all their baked goods and donuts right on site now. As a comparison the Schnucks Store want 75cents each for a hard roll.won’t be buying there now. Their deli meats are also cheaper. and good quality. But they couldn’t beat Shop & Save today on sliced ham for $3.99 a lb. I see hot ham and cheese sandwich's in my future this week. It’s usually $5.99lb.

At that price I can sneak Rigg’s a slice too.

I also found one six pack of Moosehead Beer in the cooler, so I brought it home for my next special occasion, Donna’s birthday is coming up on the 24th of this month so since she doesn’t drink beer I can celebrate it for her. What a guy..

We are still not planning anything except a trip to Branson on Sept 22nd to celebrate Donna’s brother Pat and his wife Kathy’s 50th anniversary, we will be there several days and I want to stop and visit with Ron and Ali Workentin at the Campground they manage.

I do want to make one more trip while it’s till warm weather and then plan something for this winter.

That’s about it for today, Everyone be safe out there. Sam & Donna…

Saturday/Sunday Notes.

Here it is our weekend is ticking away, Donna worked the restaurant last night, but she is off today. We are just relaxing, with another gorgeous sunny and 85degree’s Dardenne Prairie day.
I will have to make a run to Shop & Save since the Emergency Beer Low Warning System activated on the fridge last night, when it gets down to 3 cans, the Klaxon horn sounds and an orange strobe flashes. You can silence the horn by hitting the reset button but the strobe will flash until a new 30 pack is put in the rack.
Have joined several veterans groups on facebook, some are ships I was on but one I really enjoy is the US NavyFlight Deck Veterans group. It is a really active group and it seems they really enjoy sharing their experiences of working on, and flying from air craft carrier flight decks. As I age I am really glad now I was given the opportunity to serve in this manner and fly. When I think of the things we did and the sights and sounds and dangers involved it was a pretty exciting time in your life. Like I have said before the most fun you could have as a young man.
I know a few of you like the pictures I post so here are a couple more carrier related.

Getting into your middle 60’s maybe is giving me a crisis in life where you know you are slowing down and hope you can put it off. I still have trouble with my feet but the occasional use of a can when it is really sore, makes things a lot easier. I worry more about Donna than my own aches and pains.
But you take whatever life throws at you and go from there. plus we have Rigg’s and Sadie and the Grands to give us some diversion.
That’s about it for today, hope everyone is doing well. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna……

T.G.I.F.

I have to apologize for not meeting my commitment to getting a blog out in a timely manner, I might have scared a couple folks when they didn’t see a blog for a couple days, I got an e-mail making sure Donna and I were all right since they hadn’t seen a post since. Tuesday. God love your friends, it makes you feel good to know there are friends out there that worry about you. But yes all is well and I just suffered a a combination of a writers block and also being struck down in my prime by the number one crippler of older adults,( read retiree’s). LAZINESS…Yep no other excuses just couldn’t think so I let it go a couple of days.

I will try to get out here soon with the camera and maybe shoot some train pictures since there are several bloggers in addition to myself who are Ferroinquonologist’s. ( Train Lovers).

I did take a Google Earth snapshot of interest. This is actually for Dennis and Donna’s son Kelly who was stationed aboard The USS John F. Kennedy CV-67 during his Naval hitch. Here it is in the mothball fleet at Philadephia Naval Yard.

CV67at Phila Naval Shpyard

Can’t get over the quality of the satellite image, image what our enemies can see.

Tonight all things being equal and it’s Friday, so I will have a pizza night. None of the Grand kid’s are here, they started school this week, maybe I’ll see them later in the weekend. If Rigg’s gets lucky I may give him a small piece of the crust.

Gonna see if I can talk Donna into a short trip before August is over, In Sept we will be going to meet her Brother Pat and his wife for there 50th anniversary. But I would like a couple days with just us like honeymooner's.

The weather here at the Ranch is still wonderful. sunny and in the mid 80’s. Donna just left for the restaurant, and I will say see ya. Hope all is well in blogland, Be safe out there. Sam & Donna…..

Tuesday Thoughts.

Can’t believe it’s Tuesday already, where did Monday go, It was like we went right from Sunday to Tuesday.

Later I’ll look around and see if Monday is laying around someplace or in a trash bag or something.

We are having another sunny and mild day with a temperature of 80 in the mid afternoon. Just great weather for this time of the year.

Donna is rearranging the kitchen cabinets and getting rid of stuff we don’t use anymore.

Seems like even though it is summer not a lot of people are traveling, even the full timers seem to be staying in one place longer.

I would really like to get out for a trip, but Donna is till not 100 %, so it will have to wait, but the fiver and truck are ready to go whenever we are.

Rigg’s is always ready to go. He gets so excited if he see’s me put a ball cap on as he knows I will be going out, Donna said yesterday when I went to the store, he cried and pouted the whole time I was gone because he didn’t get to go. Then when you walk back in it’s like you were gone forever.

Since Donna is home all day most days, and Samantha and Andy are back to work now. Sadie has been keen on getting Grandma’s affection and sitting on her lap as much as she’s allowed to.

Sadie08-12-13b

Try to play Candy Games or Scrabble on the laptop when you have your hands full of Yorkie.

Rigg’s has to be content with Dad or Andy’s lap as he is to big and heavy for Donna.

Donna said tonight is going to be dead chicken night so I am looking forward to supper.

Not much else going on here at the ranch, we hope all is well with all our friends out there. Be safe. Sam & Donna…

SUNDAY NOTES.

Just another quiet day at the Ranch, Donna and I just relaxed so far most of the day, It is another gorgeous sunny day, but we didn’t feel like going anywhere. Donna worked the restaurant last night but it was slow so she got off early for a change on a Saturday night. Usually she closes and isn’t home until way after midnight.

The truck hasn’t turned a wheel since it had it’s oil changed on Thursday, nowhere I felt like going so were saving on fuel.

Rigg’s is hanging out with his Mom & Dad trying to keep one of us busy with his toys. Sadie went with Andy & Samantha somewhere.

Here’s a picture of another Lab who’s a little busier.

Say a prayer these two get home safe.

That’s about it a quiet day here at the Weeb Ranch. Hope all is well with all our friends out there. Be safe. Sam & Donna…….

Saturday Mumblings.

After a two day break from posts we’re back.  Nicky went home yesterday, and there just wasn’t nothing going on, so we took a break. No pizza last night, forgot to take the dough out to defrost.

This morning when Donna was pouring her coffee, she said come here, we have the first new tenants looking at the new & improved bird motel. Looks like they are interested in the ground floor apartment.

newbirdmotel08-10-13a

newbirdmotel08-10-13b

Hope they like it, it’s a lot roomier than the old one that was falling apart.

Donna got a new machine to help her with her breathing problems(CPAD). It is called a Nebulizer, sounds to me like something that re arranges your cells and transports you to the Mother Ship in orbit.

Donna'snebulizer08-10-13a

Hope it works, maybe she will visit Alice Kramden on the moon.

We are having just gorgeous weather here on the Ranch considering it is mid August. Morning temps in the low 70’s and highs in the mid 80’s. Couldn’t ask for better.

Rigg’s is hoping that we will take him to the doggie park for a swim, he was out playing with Sadie in the back yard this morning, but I know he wants a good run and a swim, Donna said tomorrow when she is off we will take the two of them. Rigg’s makes it into the Lake in flying leaps, Sadie will only get her toes and belly wet. But they both seem to enjoy the leash free environment. Rigg’s makes sure none of the bigger dogs get to rough with his little sister, although Sadie seems to hold her own for only 7 lbs.

Hoping for a chance to get away for a few days, all depends on how Donna’s breathing is doing, although now we can take her machine with us.

Had the truck over to Wal Mart Thursday, I had a leak in the right rear tire, and it was due for an oil change and grease job. Luckily when I bought the tires I paid for road hazard coverage, That saved me 20 dollars as the repair was free. But they make up for it on a diesel 4x4 oil change. Seems like everytime I have it done it is more expensive. used to be $55, now it is $75. But now it is ready to go for the next towing adventure.

That’s about it for today, hope al is well in blog land. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna…………..

Tuesday&Wednesday Musings

First I would Like to Welcome my 1179th follower RUNNINGMEMAW she has a blog and it has many great pictures. Hope you enjoy seeing what’s going on at the Weeb Ranch and also when Donna & I get out in the fiver.

Tuesday was a good day here at the Weeb Ranch, Grand Nicky came to stay until the end of the week, she had just gotten some body paintings so she said she would model them for her Grandpa.

It was a nice day sunny & about 85 degrees. so she played around the house.

This morning on Wednesday Grandpa had to go to Walmart for a new mouse, the old one stopped while Donna was using it last night. Nicky said she would go with me so we headed over to Wally World. While we were there Nicky saw a new baby she couldn’t live without, and asked Grandpa if we could adopt here.

So here is Rilye. She also got a pumpkin seat and bed so Rilye would be comfortable in her new home with her new Mom.

Nicky&hernewbaby08-07-13a

                                   Nicky & Rilye.

Nicky has spent the day being a good Mom and taking care of her new baby. Grandpa also bought here a packet of driveway chalks so she can be creative on the driveway outside.

Donna is taking one more night off and said she will be going in to the restaurant tomorrow night. I am so glad she is doing better, still has a persistent cough though.

Rigg’s and Dad are just laying around and not doing much, I have to get the truck over to Wal-mart to have a leak in the one tire fixed, when I bought the tires a bought the road hazard package so I will see if it is covered.

That’s about it for today. Hope all is well for all our friends. Be  safe out there. Sam & Donna……

Monday Meanderings.

Up early for coffee, way before my bride, then Rigg’s and I took our nap, we were joined by Sadie who can jump up on the low beds. but not the tall one in our room, since I was in the guest room she can make that.

Another quiet day at the Ranch, another cloudy day of about 80 degrees but so far no rain.

Donna is at her computer for the first time in several days, she says she has 80 e-mails to read. Maybe that’s a good sign she is feeling better.

Was hoping to take a couple days and get away in the fiver, but she says she isn’t ready yet for that. We won’t get a chance to take Adam and Nicky for a short vacation, Adam’s Mom is feuding with my Son so we haven’t seen him in about 4 weeks, she is withholding his visits. Plus now football is starting, and in another two weeks he is back to school. Have to wait and see what next year brings. Since the Grand girls were featured yesterday here is a recent picture of Adam & his girlfriend. she is a cheerleader for his team.

Boy look at the fun I am missing out on out on the east coast.

Donna is a little more active and said she is feeling better today tan yesterday, She doesn’t have to worry about the restaurant now until Wednesday so she will have plenty of time to rest.

Sunday here at the Ranch was quiet a mix of sun and clouds, no rain, and the temp is right at 80 degrees. just fine for an August day. The highlight of my day was taking the dumper down since they changed our pickup day from Thursday to Monday, forgot that last week so we had two weeks worth out there today. only two plastic bags more.

Rigg’s is staying close to his Dad today and making sure he is right next to me, he is so spoiled, if Donna was feeling better I would have taken him to the doggie park, but I want to be here if she needs anything.

That’s about it for today. Everyone be safe out there. Sam & Donna…..
