Tuesday Thoughts.

Yesterday when I got up at 05:00AM as I was pouring my coffee I noticed the thermometer was showing –2.

Thought I would get a picture of it as it seemed pretty cold. Little did I know that the temperature would keep dropping until later in the morning it was –10.
Donna said she thought something was wrong with the furnace so I went down and checked the circuit breakers,(its electric) and saw the fan was blowing but it wouldn’t heat the house above 61 degrees. I think it may have a sequencer or element bad. Anyway my son Andy went out and brought wood in and he got a good fire going which quickly brought the temperature in the kitchen and great room up.As my Grandfather would have said " Good fire, that will take ten passenger
cars up to Pocono Summit without a pusher".
We called the furnace guy and is coming out today (Tuesday) sometime. Remember last summer the A/C quit on a 100plus day. Yesterday was below zero all day luckily we it didn’t fail completely and we have the wood stove and a supply of wood.

Hope everyone is having a great day. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna……….

  1. Isn't that always the way? And yes that certainly is cold.

  2. You might have just exceeded the amount of warm air it can put out... Not sure ST Louis heaters are designed for much more than ten below...

  3. So glad you have the fireplace as an alternate heat source when these things happen!

  4. That's Murphy's Law at work, coldest day and the furnace will stop and the hottest day it will be the AC. Glad you have the fireplace to keep things warm. Hope that weather doesn't last too long for you.

  5. We had our son go to our house and shut off all the water..just in case. We have an old furnace...one of the many things that needs replacing on our old house!

  6. Crazy weather - yesterday high 8 F and tomorrow high to be 30F. Its hard on everyone especially heating costs and animals and the homeless. As for me, I'm heading for FL in 10 days to start my full timing adventure. Stay safe.

  8. Yes, Murphy's law holds true in this regard. Did your furnace guy make it that day? While a fire could be a good stop-gap solution, it might not be enough once things started getting really cold. Either way, I hope your furnace was fixed soon after. Take care!

  9. A cold front when your furnace is broken was indeed bad news. Fortunately, you have a supply of wood in the house and it was enough to keep your house warmth. But still, I hope your furnace guy was able to fix your furnace soon after that.
