Wednesday Musings

Got up at the usual 04:30am, had coffee with Donna,it was dark and raining, I checked the weather for here and Iowa and today didn't look so good so I told Donna I was putting off my trip to take train pictures until it showed a couple of sunny weekdays.

I usually go up to Fort Madison Ia. there is a small campground at the end of 241st St off 52nd Ave and Highway 61. IT has water and electric sites on grass and is on a slough of the Mississippi River, it used to have a swimming area and play area but the flood of 93 destroyed that and it just subsists now a a small campground, I think the rate is 12-14 dollars a night last time I was there and the shower house and restrooms were rebuilt and new and they have a pavilion and dump station. It is also close to the old Santa Fe transcontinental mainline which is now BNSF RR and has over 100 trains a day. Fort Madison also has services and food and is a scenic river town complete with the requisite casino.

Anyway I will watch the weather and maybe go later in the week. I want to stop at the Cat Scale on Hwy 61 on the way up to weigh the trailer with the fresh water tank full that will give me an average weight since the grey water and black tanks are empty. I kept a scale card in the truck from the old trailer, but haven't gotten around to weighing the new one, never wanted to stop when Donna & I were on trips, but this will be a no time schedule type trip.

Today is a slow news day here in Dardenne Prairie, feeling better so whatever hit the other day is getting better, Also if anyone out there knows of a good place to stay in the Cincinnati OH area we would like to combine a weeks vacation with Adam and visiting Donna's brother and family who live there. Hopefully it would have the usual kid things to keep an eight year old happy. WE also will go to king's Island Park while we are there.

That's about it for today, Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...

  2. Hi Sam, we recently stayed in North Bend near Cincinnati. The park is nothing special but freeway close for easy access and it had full hookups. It was called Indian Springs. I did a review of it back in May.

    Glad you are feeling better.

  3. I've never been to Ohio so I'm afraid I can't help you with any campgrounds there. I do know that Margie stayed in Cincinnati recently and she has done reviews of all the parks she stayed at, so you might want to check her blog to see where she stayed in Cincinnati.

  5. It sure sounds like a good spot to get away to.... and great idea to get weighed again too. Tire pressures and wear depends on the weight distribution, and you are going to also be comfortable with knowing you are stowed and packed good for that.
