Wednesday Musings, Home again..

I was up at 0400am Eastern time and headed the truck to I-81 from Scranton, as I started up the mountain it started to snow, flurries at first then bigger and bigger flakes until just south of I-80 there was about two inches of snow on the highway I and was creeping along in 4 wheel drive thinking this isn’t good. At Mountaintop PA, which appropriately is also the summit of the grade we were joined by a salt truck with a plow and down we went and about 18 mile later we were again on pretty clear pavement. At Harrisburg PA I headed west on the Pa Turnpike. From There west to New Stanton PA where I got I-70 West and then all the way across PA, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, & Illinois the roads were dry.
Yep I sucked it up and did the entire 980 miles just like I used to when I was a young pup. Just as I crossed into MO. It started with the freezing rain they predicted but the highways had been treated and salted so I made it home before the storm hit. Like threading a needle. Turned on final approach to the Weeb Ranch in Dardenne Prairie for a total of 15 hours in the saddle.

It was dark when I got to Illinois & MO so no picture of the Border crossings.
I was given a tumultuous welcome from Rigg’s he did the full body wag , and lot’s of licks and kisses and cries. Then it was time for his presents, Sadie is still afraid of her Grandpa so I will give her time to get used to me.

  1. Wow! You did good. It's been a long time since I've driven that many miles at a stretch, and it would have been when there were more daylight hours. Great job!

  5. When I first saw your picture I wondered how did Ron get to your house. You two could be brothers! I will get him to wear his red shirt with black suspenders and his Santa hat and post it.

Glad to see you made it safely home!

  7. Woo Hoo! You made it home through bad weather and all! Safe and sound! Good for you. I would have driven the whole way too if I felt awake and alert enough. Have fun with Riggs. It's the Santa hat that Sadie is afraid of I think.

  8. That's a huge amount of time on the road. I'm glad you made it safely and that you are finally home. Riggs must be sleeping soundly knowing you're back. And you probably are, too, right now. Almost 10 pm western time. Enjoy your first day home tomorrow!

  10. 900 miles in one day? Your nuts, but I understand the nasty nature of the storm that is staring you in the face. I thought about you every time I watched the weather forecast all day long. Glad your home safe!

  12. Glad you are home safe and sound. I would have bet money that you were going to try and make it in a day. Nice that you took the time to help out your sister, you really are a good Santa.

  14. We're happy to hear that you're home safe and sound. It must have been great to get such a greeting from Riggs. We know about the long drives. Coming back from Canada or Alaska, we get down to the last two days and think, do we really want to get home in two days or get home today at 11 PM. Sometimes we get anxious to get home and we're sure you were all too anxious to get home.
